Our history

Chester Road Runners was founded by Louisa Hallas in late 2012. Originally based at Chester Race Course, our club welcomed beginners to join us on Sunday mornings. In early spring of 2013, we moved to Westminster Park, and that's where our journey really took off.

From the start, our main focus has been on supporting beginner runners. Chester Road Runners quickly blossomed into the friendly, encouraging group that we are proud of today. We began offering Couch to 5k (C25K) courses, and our membership grew steadily.

As we became an affiliated club with UK England Athletics, our numbers continued to rise. Although Louisa's academic and lecturing commitments took her away from running the club, she is fondly remembered for her vision and dedication to Chester Road Runners.

Joanne Hutcheon, who has been with us from the beginning, stepped up to lead the club. She has worked hard to maintain our friendly, supportive ethos and keep us moving forward. We formed a working committee to give members a voice and help manage the increasing tasks involved in running an affiliated club. Many of our original members are still with us today, and their abilities have grown remarkably over the years.

Our club has grown significantly and now includes members of all abilities, supported by a fantastic team of volunteer run leaders. We've evolved to meet the needs of all our members, including experienced runners who join us to find others at their level.

Some of our original beginners have gone on to complete half marathons, triathlons, and even marathons. Our C25K courses and weekly beginner groups ensure that Chester Road Runners continues to grow, welcoming new runners and supporting them every step of the way.
