Run Leaders - Mark

What inspired you to start leading runs and what motivates you to keep going?

I'd volunteered a few times orginaising some unofficial runs in the absense of any available run leaders, as a result I was asked to become a run leader. Running with others is enough to keep me going.

Can you share your favourite running route and why it’s special to you?

I don't have any one particular favourite route. I do enjoy The Meadows and running along the river to Eccleston when it's good weather. Going out to the suburbs like Upton and Newton is always a pleasure and I'm also well know for my love of snickets.

What tips do you have for beginners who are just starting their running journey?

The hardest thing can be to convice yourself to just get out there and go for a run, no matter what the distance, so when you can do that you're on your way. Having others to run with is a great as it stops you constantly thinking about your pace and distance. Also, don't start off too fast as you want to reserve your energy.

How do you stay motivated on days when you don’t feel like running?

Being part of a group helps keep you focused and committed and takes your mind off things. Remembering the good feeling you get from running and getting some exercise.

What’s one memorable moment from your time leading runs that stands out to you?

Receiving a lovely Christmas present from my running buddies that I regularly run with on Sundays who had all chipped in to get for me as a thank you for organising the runs we had done during the year.
